Guide

Buy a domain cheap — and keep it cheap.

Most cheap domain offers are bait. The $1 first-year renews at $25. The "free" domain locks you into a 4-year hosting contract. Here's how to actually save money over the lifetime of a domain.

Step 1: Compare register + renewal together

First-year price means nothing without the renewal. We sort by 3-year total so you see the real cost of ownership.

Step 2: Avoid registry-premium pricing

Some short, brandable names are flagged "premium" by the registry and cost $100–$10,000. We surface these warnings before you click "Buy".

Step 3: Transfer for cheaper renewals

Buy at Spaceship or Porkbun for the lowest first-year, then transfer to Cloudflare after 60 days. Cloudflare charges wholesale forever ($9.59 .com).

Step 4: Stack the discount with a coupon

Namecheap and GoDaddy frequently issue first-year coupons. Our "Buy here" links surface the best-known public coupon code when available.
